The Delaware Museum of Natural History opened in 1972 to excite and inform people about the natural world through exploration and discovery. Gallery highlights include the only permanent dinosaur display in Delaware, a walkover coral reef, and wildlife surrounding an African watering hole. Visitors can gaze up at a Giant Squid, encounter a jaguar face-to-face, and marvel at the diversity of shells from around the globe. The interactive Discovery Room features hands-on science activities for young children. Visitors can view nature films, shop in the Museum Store, enjoy the butterfly garden, and hike along the mile-long nature trail.
Exhibits are enhanced by world-class scientific collections of mammals, mollusks and birds, including the second-largest collection of birds’ eggs in North America. The Delaware Museum of Natural History’s purpose is to help develop a caring society that respects and values our planet.
